BDS Aotearoa provides information on targeted campaigns against Israel specific to the context of Aotearoa New Zealand. Inspired by the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa, the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign adopts a rights-based and non-violent approach to pressure the Israeli state to comply with international law and respect the rights of Palestinians.

The BDS movement has three simple demands. It asks that individuals and communities of conscience everywhere boycott and divest from Israel until it:

  1. Ends its occupation and colonisation of all Arab lands (occupied in 1967) and dismantles the Separation Wall (also known as the Apartheid Wall);

  2. Recognises the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality (civic rights); and

  3. Respects, protects, and promotes the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties, as stipulated in UN Resolution 194.

New Zealand played an important role in bringing down the South African Apartheid regime through the boycotts and protests of the 1981 Springbok Tour. We urge you to take a stand and get involved. Together we can force Israel to abide by international law.

BDS Aotearoa boycott Targets

There are four main BDS targets in New Zealand:

  1. Obela Hummus

  2. SodaStream

  3. HP Computing

  4. Ahava Skincare

Support the Boycott by not buying these products.

Say NO to Obela when doing your shopping

The NObela campaign is a nationwide effort to get the Obela brand removed from our supermarket shelves.

Why? Because Obela hommus and dips is 50% owned by one of Israel’s largest food producers — the Strauss Group. Strauss Group’s website boasts that they were ‘born of a Zionist vision’ and today the business actively support and fund the Israeli military (IOF) and their genocide and ethnic cleansing in Palestine.

A brand like Obela, with direct ties to the IDF, should not be stocked on the shelves of NZ supermarkets.

Don’t buy any Obela products

Encourage your friends, family & co-workers to take Obela off their shopping lists too

Contact your local supermarket and explain why they should stop stocking Obela products

The BDS movement calls for a boycott of all the products of all Israeli and international companies that are involved in Israel’s violations of Palestinian rights.

Israel’s cultural institutions (music, visual arts, etc.) are implicated, through their silence or active participation, in supporting, justifying and whitewashing Israel’s occupation and denial of Palestinian rights.
